Located within the St. Regis Hotel, our Power VIP Group successfully completed a 60,000 sf phased amenity build-out, spanning multiple levels in the 101-story tower. This complex build-out includes a lobby and pre-function ballroom on the ground floor, a Tuscan steakhouse with mezzanine seating on level two, a full-service spa on level 10, and a 300+ seat sushi restaurant with two outdoor terraces on level 11. Additional amenities include a staff canteen and offices on level two, a bakery and staff kitchen on the mezzanine level, and a kitchen on the lower level.

Our United Insulated Structures Group recently installed insulated metal panels at our 53,000 sf expansion project for Vanee Foods in Broadview, IL. A self-performed trade, we utilized an innovative approach using a suction cup technique to place the panels, followed by a telehandler for precise positioning - this strategy allowed us to complete the installation in just seven working days. This method is at the forefront of our industry, showcasing our commitment to innovation and improvement. As we integrate new technologies and techniques, our teams are ready to deliver exceptional results, raising the bar for quality and efficiency in every project we undertake. The project is slated for completion this Fall.

Did you know you can receive a college scholarship based on your love of construction? Power Construction offers scholarships to support minority and female high school seniors intending to pursue a construction-related degree in college.

Investing in people is what Power is all about. Part of that mission is to promote construction industry awareness at Chicago area high schools. By helping to ease the financial burden of college, these scholarships allow Power to support minority and female high school students who already know they love to build.

Meet Taaliyah – a 2020 Power scholarship recipient and graduate of Chicago's Lindblom Math & Science Academy. By her senior year Taaliyah had successfully completed three internships, was the standing president of NSBE, and the captain of her softball team. Described by a teacher as having a "rare aptitude for both math and science in engineering," she was a clear leader among her peers with focus on teamwork, discipline, and patience.

During the first interview conversation with Taaliyah she shared her interest intent to pursue a degree in construction stemmed from her passion for buildings and love of working with her hands. However, her "dream" university, Milwaukee School of Engineering, was not a financially viable option. Instead, she considered a school on the east coast based solely on program affordability.

In an effort to help MSOE achieve its strategic diversity goals, Power worked with MSOE to increase Taaliyah's scholarship offering. Doing so made her dream of attending MSOE a reality.

Power built an early bond with Taaliyah, seeking every avenue to offer support. She was connected with a Power/MSOE alum as a mentor, introduced to female Power leaders, and given opportunities for job site shadows with Power's Aviation Group at O'Hare International Airport.

Today, Taaliyah is a sophomore in Construction Management at MSOE, an RA in her residence hall, and an active member of NSBE. She completed a 2021 summer internship with Power where she worked on a $300M project at RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago. It was during this experience that she discovered her passion for the field side of construction.

Like Power does with every intern at the close of each summer, Taaliyah was encouraged to explore internship opportunities at other companies in order to broaden her perspective of the construction business. Power's encouragement included talking with Taaliyah about goals for her second internship and the potential fit with other companies. Taaliyah's proactive approach to her job search resulted in multiple offers and ultimately an internship with Bulley & Andrews for Summer 2022.

An Early Start to a Construction Career

Power Construction's Assistant Project Engineer Program offers a compelling opportunity for junior college students in construction adjacent programs—including construction management, engineering and architecture—to ease the financial burden of higher education, jumpstart their careers and gain invaluable on-the-job training. Providing an early path into the high-paying construction industry, students are able to begin their careers prior to completing a degree.

Understanding the barriers to entering the industry, Power created the program in 2016 to attract interested students outside of traditional four-year programs. Unlike a standard internship, the Assistant PE role is a salaried position eligible for tuition reimbursement, providing individuals training as well as a steady income to help lessen the monetary stress of completing a formal education.

"Being able to go to school, get field experience and earn the opportunity to have some of your tuition reimbursed is awesome," says Andy Rodawold, who joined the program in 2016 and is now an Assistant Project Manager.

A typical Assistant PE schedule includes 40 hours of work in addition to 10-12 hours of evening or online classes per week. Day-to-day experiences augment classroom curriculum and enhance academic performance.

"The help and the guidance from coworkers along the way has been great," says Andy. "With work and school at the same time, I feel like it's really spring-boarded me ahead in my career."

Students who graduate with an associate degree in Construction Management or a related field of study typically go on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Four-year institutions that offer online and/or evening construction management degrees include Purdue University Northwest, Indiana State University and Northern Michigan University.

Focusing on construction-related programs in community colleges in and around Chicago—such as College of Dupage, Harper College, Joliet Junior College and City Colleges of Chicago—Power is able to hire a diverse range of students as full-time, entry level assistant project engineers. Power also taps into local community training organizations—like Revolution Workshop—to find those who have discovered a love of construction outside a traditional college timeline.
